About Akwaaba Travel Insurance

The Government of Ghana has made it mandatory for non-Ghanaians visiting Ghana to take a local Travel Insurance policy through SIC Insurance Plc, to cover Emergency Medical and Hospitalization expenses; including Epidemic and Pandemic diseases especially COVID 19, Quarantine / Isolation expenses, as well as Medical Evacuation following an accident or illiness, Repartration of Mortal remains, Accidental death or injury, and other travel exigencies as contained in the schedule of benefits in the policy.

WHO DOES IT COVER

  • Non-Ghanaians excluding members of the Diplomatic Community and their Dependents and Returning Residents.
  • Persons of Ghanaian lineage with foreign passports but do not hold Ghana Passports, or the Ghana Dual Nationality Card or Certificate.

HOW TO PURCHASE A POLICY

The Policy shall be sold through the Website www.akwaabinsurance.com

At the Website, an applicant completes a proposal form for the system to compute the premium payable. The applicant then pays the premium through a payment platform set up in the name of SIC Insurance Plc after which a Policy document together with a list of accredited Service Providers (Hospitals, Pharmacies and Laboratories) in Ghana and their contact persons, shall be e-mailed to the Policyholder.

A Policy Certificate with a unique code specifying the benefits under the Policy shall also be e-mailed to the Policyholder.

WHAT TO DO IN CASE OF MEDICAL EMERGENCIES

Whilst in Ghana the Policyholder may visit any of the accredited Service Providers in case of any medical emergencies without paying any fee on presentation of the Certificate which the Service Provider shall authenticate.

HOW TO MAKE NON-MEDICAL CLAIM

In case of a non-medical claim, the Policyholder shall go to the Akwaaba Insurance website to complete a claim form and attach the relevant supporting documentation which should be submitted to SIC Insurance Plc for processing.
